Transformation of ECA estate
Work is now underway on a six-year project to update Edinburgh College of Art’s (ECA) historic estate.
Development will be especially concentrated on teaching, research and studio spaces in the ECA Main Building and Lauriston Architecture Building.
The project will install contemporary audio and visual facilities in the refurbished spaces and bring into use a major new space in the western half of the Main Building at Lauriston Place.
Looking to the future
ECA activity will eventually be concentrated between the Lauriston Place campus and the George Square area, allowing for the eventual decommissioning of functionally unsuitable buildings in Chambers Street and Nicolson Square.
Gathering the College on two sites will have many benefits to the ECA community, including greater opportunities for cross-disciplinary working.
Detailed information
Students directly involved in relocations during the works will continue to be informed in more detail of practicalities as their part of the process approaches.
Staff and student workshops will take place throughout the year for contributions to the ongoing development of ECA's short and long-term Estates Strategy.
A works timetable, videos, architectural drawings and progress updates are available on ECA’s webpages.
