Broaden your horizons in 2014

The University Chaplaincy offers a variety of events throughout the year. The Centre is open to all students, regardless of faith. We’ve selected some highlights that could spark something interesting for you this New Year.

Can the University afford to have values?

This event is part of the ‘What is the University For?’ series which aims to bring students, academic and non-academic staff together, across sites and disciplines, for fundamental reflection on the purpose of the University of Edinburgh. Feedback from recent events is influencing policy at departmental and University level.

Chaired by Professor Susan Deacon, Assistant Principal Corporate Engagement. Wednesday 26 February, 5.30pm.

Exploring Our Faiths

A multi-faith group meeting that takes place every second Wednesday (from 15 January 2014), 3-4.30pm. Each meeting focuses on one religion or belief; all major faith groups, including humanism and atheism, are represented. All are welcome to come along and discuss their faith and others (non-combatively!).

The Spirit, the Earth and the Human Soul

This nine-week course, open to all at the University, will feature a mixture of readings from A New Harmony by Dr JP Newell; with art, music, reflection and meditative practice included. Thursdays, 6-7.30pm, starting 23 January 2014.

The Chaplaincy - a social centre

The Chaplaincy Centre is open to all students, regardless of faith. We provide a relaxed space for studying, eating lunches, socialising or just taking time out.

Regular weekly lunchtime activities and classes include Tai Chi, Mindfulness, Meditation, Yoga, Midday Prayers (in different traditions), and a Communion Service.
