The ARTIST ROOMS collection is of major significance and richness.
Few of the works, however, have been examined in detail. Our research explores the history and meaning of selected ARTIST ROOMS works, further enabling audiences to engage with the ideas and practices of the artists concerned, and curators to develop new approaches to the use of the collection.
Academic staff and post-graduate students in History of Art at Edinburgh write online summaries describing works and exploring in detail their making, meaning and reception in support of the ARTIST ROOMS collection.
These are available published on the Tate website and the National Galleries of Scotland.
Cultural transfer in post-1945 German art
The ARTIST ROOMS collection has outstanding strengths in German art from the 1960s, offering scope for research into the reception of German art in the UK and how this was shaped by, or reflected in, ARTIST ROOMS.

Using the ARTIST ROOMS collection of Andy Warhol’s stitched photographs as a starting point, this research project intends to examine the place of stillness within Warhol’s oeuvre.
