About the group
This official Facebook group is for all new students starting at the University of Edinburgh in the Academic Year 2024/2025. As an applicant/new student to the University, you can use this group to:

How to join
This is a private group which offer-holders must request to join. You will find the link to the group in your offer letter and in emails you receive from the University prior to starting.
Membership
The group is intended for students holding offers from the University of Edinburgh only. However, due to the large numbers of students with offers and as a public social media platform, we cannot guarantee that all members of this group will be official new students in the 2024/2025 academic year.
Moderation
The group is moderated by University staff within normal office hours (Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00). If you have any questions for staff, please use our contact form to guarantee a response:

Group rules
No hate speech or bullying
Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated. Any posts or threads that contain abusive, obscene, indecent, degrading or offensive language or media will be deleted and the post author will be blocked.
Irrelevant promotions or spam will be removed
The University of Edinburgh cannot take responsibility for incorrect/inaccurate information not directly disseminated by the University. Any posts or threads that promote or sell items, accommodation, merchandise, social media groups (e.g. WhatsApp/SnapChat/Instagram etc.) and/or event tickets not connected to the University will be deleted and the post author will be blocked. Joining any other social media group outwith this group, including other groups claiming to be the University of Edinburgh is at your own risk.
Do not share your personal information online
Do not share any personal information online e.g., student number, contact number, accommodation address etc. These posts will be deleted. If you would like to report or query any content within this group, please email induction@ed.ac.uk .

Privacy Statement
The information you provide within this group will be stored by the University to enhance future activities and services relating to new students. Screenshots will be taken of activities (posts, comments or direct messages) which either violate the rules of the group or that will help to inform our work and the resources that we share. We use this information about you because we have a legitimate interest in ensuring the content included on the Facebook group is appropriate and in line with the rules.
The personal data that is stored includes your Facebook profile name (and picture), date of post/comment and content of post/comment.
This information will be stored by the Pre-Arrival and Induction Team for a maximum of 18 months. All content will be anonymised if deemed necessary to share internally within the University. Information will not be shared external to the University.
