Joint PhD programme launched
Edinburgh and Macquarie University have agreed to launch a joint PhD programme.

Vice-Principal Mary Bownes and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jim Piper, of Macquarie University, Sydney, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on 6 April.
Edinburgh places increasing significance on educational collaboration with other universities, particularly overseas.
Macquarie University
Located in Sydney, Australia, Macquarie is a research-intensive university.
It takes a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching and research.
It aims to become one of the top eight research universities in Australia and offers a comprehensive range of scholarships.
Funding opportunities
A generous funding package is available to students from Edinburgh.
While the student is studying in Australia (one-year minimum), Macquarie will pay:
- a fees scholarship to cover tuition while the student is there
- payment of a stipend towards living costs (approx £10,000 per annum)
- one return airfare from the UK to Australia
- costs for one international conference
While the student is studying in Edinburgh (one-year minimum), Colleges would be required to provide them with a fees scholarship to cover tuition fees.
Ideally, they would also be provided with a small stipend in the form of a College/School scholarship.
All individual student-specific Memoranda of Agreement should be approved through relevant College Committee structures.
