The event will take place on Tuesday 19 November from 4.45pm and marks the beginning of the University’s festive celebrations.

The Christmas lights on the eight-metre-tall fir tree will be switched on by Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Sir Peter Mathieson.

Members of the University community are invited to join the Principal in the Old College Quadrangle, where complimentary festive refreshments will be available and guests can enjoy a performance with singing from the University Choir and music from Edinburgh’s Salvation Army band.

The event is free and open to all members of the University of Edinburgh community.

Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis, and must be booked in advance.
