Flow cytometry facility
State-of-the-art Flow cytometry equipment, training and expertise.
Flow Cytometry is a powerful, laser-based technology, which can be used to analyse the physical, chemical and biological properties of individual cells or cellular components, and it permits the analysis of millions of cells in suspension, in a relatively small amount of time.
The facility consists of two cell sorter and two Flow Cytometry analysers, in addition we can also provide access and support for FlowJo analysis software. The facility also houses the Chromium 10X single cell instrument.
Services offered by Flow Cytometry
The facility can provide advice regarding flow cytometry experiments, panel design (fluorophore choice) and staining protocols.
We provide training for all staff who will use the facility to allow independent use of the facility’s analysers. The training consists of two sessions and has to be booked in advance with the facility staff.
Instruments available for analysis
BD LSR Fortessa– 5 Laser configuration and capable of detecting up to 18 colours. This instrument is also fitted with a BD HTS system, allowing acquisition from a 96 well plate.
Beckman Coulter Cytoflex- 3 laser configuration and capable of detecting up to 6 colours. This instrument is also fitted with a 96 well plate loader.
Instruments available for sorting
5 laser FACS Aria II, capable of detecting up to 15 colours and sorting up to 4 separate populations as well as sorting into up to 384 well plates.
4 laser Beckman Coulter Cytoflex SRT is housed in a Class II biosafety cabinet and capable of detecting up to 15 colours and sorting up to 4 separate populations as well as sorting into up to 384 well plates.
The flow cytometry staff can also provide users with advice on data analysis, using either the instrument software (BD FACS DIVA) or FlowJo analysis software.
The Flow Cytometry Facility also provides a Chromium 10X single cell service to the institute. Our dedicated specialist will give information and advice, guidance through the process, supply reagents for the most common assay and process the samples.
