Project Allocation and Timeline

Projects are allocated in February and work commences on the project in May.

Research Project: selection and allocation process

Note that the below information is for students on programmes: 

  • Biochemistry 
  • Bioinformatics 
  • Biotechnology
  • Data Science for Biology
  • Drug Discovery and Translational Biology
  • Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology
  • Systems and Synthetic Biology

Students on other programmes: 

  • Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants students will receive project information from the programme team.
  • Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity students will receive project information from the programme team, although the timelines are listed below.
  • Quantitative Genetics suite students will hear about their project information from the programme team, although the timelines are listed below. 

Project Selection and Allocation

Project selection and allocation is managed through an online system.

  • This system goes live towards the end of Semester 1 when you will be able to see the projects available.
  • You must select your top 5 projects from this list in no order (which includes research laboratory projects, team projects, industrial projects and an option to self-propose).

Project Proposals (Semester 2)

Each programme (apart from Systems and Synthetic Biology and Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants) has a compulsory project proposal course in Semester 2. You will receive detailed information (including the deadline for submission) on the project proposal when this course commences in Semester 2. 

Dissertation Guidelines

The dissertation guidelines are updated each academic year and will be made available in advance of the project start date. If you have any questions about the guidelines please contact your Programme Administrator. 

Dissertation Submission

Dissertations are to be submitted by August 16th at 14:00. We do not accept late submissions.
