Zayne Thomson

Teaching Fellow (British Sign Language)

Background

Zayne is a Teaching Fellow in BSL and has been working at the University of Edinburgh since 2023.  Zayne teaches at all levels, from beginners to advanced.

Zayne is a fully qualified teacher specialising in British Sign Language instruction and currently undergoing training to become a BSL/English translator. With 13 years of experience in teaching BSL, it is Zayne's enduring passion.

Zayne's teaching background extends to Key Stage 3 History and KS4 Religious Education at a Secondary School for the Deaf. He enthusiastically supports his Deaf learners, offering extra assistance in various subjects, particularly History and RE, although he is equally willing to assist in other areas.

Having endured many dull lessons during his own education, he is committed to ensuring that his learners never face the same boredom. This is one of the driving forces behind his decision to become a teacher. Zayne brings a vibrant, creative, and engaging approach to teaching, infused with his zany personality (no pun intended). He adores incorporating games and activities into lessons to reignite your love for learning!
