Thesis title: Contested Pathways to Citizenship: A Comparison of Taiwan’s Investor Residence Scheme and the UK BNO Visa Scheme for Hong Kongers

Background

Yi-Chen Huang is a PhD student at Edinburgh Law School. Alongside her PhD studies, she works as a research assistant for Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT). Yi-Chen completed LL.B and BA in Sociology at National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan. She acquired an LL.M.in Public Law at College of Law, National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan and earned her Master’s degree in Leiden Law School, the Netherlands.

Current research interests

Yi-Chen's thesis attempts to explore the question of how Taiwan’s investor residence scheme and UK BNO visa scheme work and what role they play in relation to the evolution of conceptions of citizenship by developing a comparison of the two schemes in their full context.
