Background

Urvi joined the Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences as a Teaching Fellow in Sport Psychology in August 2022. After completing her BA with Psychology majors in India, Urvi completed her MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Loughborough University and a PhD from University of Edinburgh. Her PhD focused on exploring impactful factors and alternative ways to facilitate sporting success in India, specifically, a) policies implemented by Indian sport; b) the quality of coaching and the broader coaching system within the country. Given her background, Urvi specialises in sport and performance psychology as well as sport coaching (including: coaching  principles and systems, cultural sensitivity within sport coaching) and sport development (including: sport policies, systemic level changes to facilitate sport development and performance enhancement). 

From an applied perspective, Urvi is also a Chartered Psychologist and has worked with a diverse range of individuals, groups and organisations to facilitate performance enhancement and development-related goals. Specifically, she has managed a large portfolio of clients from Olympic and Paralympic sports, including wheelchair sprinting, basketball, rowing, canoeing. She has also led preparations of athletes for major competitions including the World Para Athletics Championships and Tokyo Paralympics.
