Background
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh. Expertise in the on-farm monitoring and management of farmed fish health & welfare, with a particular focus on the Atlantic salmon value chain. Over the past 5 years, Tim's work has gradually expanded into exploring applied cryptography and its applications within global food systems, with an emphasis on the integrated use of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) and hardware oracles. Current work aims to explore what real-world value these technologies could uncover for stakeholders and consumers alike through enhancing traceability and transparency solutions of these agri-food systems. Specific investigations and interests have included the study of consensus mechanisms in distributed computing, comparative functional analyses of different blockchain architectures, and strategies for preserving the integrity / authenticity of sensitive & valuable data during storage and sharing processes. Combining a strong foundation in aquaculture and animal welfare with a deepening understanding in informatics, Tim is currently based at the Roslin Institute where his research is focused on exploring how the Cardano protocol, Dendritic Oracles, and the Scottish salmon value chain may intersect to showcase the potential of these technologies.
