Background
I am a MScR student of Agriculture and Food Security at the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems. Prior to this, I was a Graduate Chemist of Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and obtained a Masters in Environmental Science from the University of Colombo. I am interested in interdisciplinary research and the practical uses of academic knowledge to address people’s day-to-day issues specifically in relation to environmental and toxicology. I have over a decade of research experience in environmental, toxicology, water management and public health and community engagement in different capacities with agricultural communities in Sri Lanka. My current MScR studentship is focused on how the impacts of climate changes have increased the use of pesticides in Ginnoruwa, a rural agricultural community in the dry zone Sri Lanka, which in turn has increased the unintentional acute pesticide poisoning.
