Simon Clark was educated at the London School of Economics. His PhD was written under the supervision of the late Michio Morishima on decentralised planning procedures. He was Head of the School of Economics from 2009 until 2017.
Prior to joining Edinburgh, he worked as an economic analyst in the City, and as a lecturer at Bristol University. He has held visiting positions at Queen's University, Canada, and at the European University Institute.
His research interests are in the areas of wage bargaining, the economics of marriage and divorce, matching theory, and the analysis of public goods.
He also has an interest in making economics accessible and relevant to policy makers; he acts as an assessor for entry to the UK Government Economic Service and has also stood for Parliament.
