Historical phonology, tonogenesis, registrogenesis, Austroasiatic languages (especially of the Katuic and Bahnaric sub-groups)
Project activity
My PhD project is concerned with the emergence of tone and register in Southeast Asian languages. I propose an integrated model of tonogenesis and registrogenesis, the Desegmental Model, which can succinctly describe the transphonologization of segmental contrasts as suprasegmental contrasts (desegmentalization).
