Roxanne Guildford (MSc FSAScot)

Thesis title: Beyond Counting Sheep: an exploratory approach to quantitative analysis of Medieval faunal assemblages

Background

Roxanne Guildford is a PhD Candidate in Archaeology and Research Affiliate for the Centre for Data, Culture & Society. Her current research focuses on an assessment of common statistical and computational methods for zooarchaeological analysis, using previously published faunal assemblages from Medieval Britain. She graduated from the University of Southern Maine suma cum laude with a BA in Geography-Anthropology, a minor in Archaeology, and Applied GIS certificate. She continued as a US-UK Fulbright Postgraduate Alumni at the University of Exeter, where she completed her MSc in Bioarchaeology (Zooarchaeology) with Distinction, and received the Principal's Career Development Scholarship and Global Research Scholarship to complete her PhD at the University of Edinburgh. During her academic career, Roxanne developed an interdisciplinary background in a wide array of topics, including geo-spatial analysis, ecology, environmental science, public archaeology, exploratory data analysis, and digital research services. She is  particularly interested in understanding how researchers engage with data and technology to enhance collaboration between SHAPE and STEM disciplines.
