Background

I am a photographer and photohistorian and my photographs and articles have appeared in numerous publications. My fine monochrome prints have been widely exhibited and are in private and public collections. I have done research in the major holdings of historic photographs in Scotland, particularly the Special Collections Department at the University of Glasgow Library and I am a former Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow. I have been lecturing on the history of Scottish photography for over 25 years. My book, The Photography of Victorian Scotland, was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2012 and has been described as ‘the seminal book on the history of Scottish photography’. Thresholds, a book of my fine monochrome prints was published in 2018.
