Background
Rebecca is a PhD student whose project examines what obligations High-Income Countries have to ameliorate the healthcare professional shortages in Low- and Middle-Income countries during Global Health Emergencies. In particular, she is interested if and what Iris Marion Young's Social Connection Model of Responsibility and conceptualisation of structural inequalities can contribute to re-framing High-Income country responses to the healthcare professional shortage and Global Health Emergencies as a matter of justice rather than charity. She is supervised by Dr. Agomoni Ganguli-Mitra and Dr. Elizabeth Cripps and is a recipient of a Edinburgh Law School & Cameron PhD Studentship.
Rebecca is also the Graduate Research Assistant on Dr. Ganguli-Mitra's Wellcome Trust Seed Award Project 'Vulnerability and justice in global health emergency regulation: developing future ethical models’. In addition to conducting background research, Rebecca manages the project website 'Justice in Global Health Emergencies' and produces the 'Just Emergencies' podcast.
Rebecca is a Postgraduate Representative on the Mason Institute Executive and is the PhD Representative for the Medical Law and Ethics Subject Area.
Rebecca's research interests include: global health justice, global justice, structural injustices, the medical brain drain, gender and global health, global health emergencies
