Background
Rebecca studied her undergraduate degree in Biology with a focus on molecular biology at University of Southampton. She then completed her master's degree in Bioinformatics at The University of Edinburgh to continue exploring her interests in genomics and evolution via bioinformatic approaches, before joining the Lab for Bacterial Evolution and Pathogenesis (LBEP). Past research projects included comparative genomics involving plants and canines.
Her project investigates the genetic diversity and evolution of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial co-infections in COVID-19 patients using population genomics and phylogenetics. It also involves investigating the impact of lateral transduction, a form of horizontal gene transfer, on the bacterial chromosome and how it influences the structure and evolution of the genome.
Qualifications
2019-2020: MSc Bioinformatics (The University of Edinburgh)
