Background
Sara completed her PhD in Linguistics at the University of Essex in 2016, with research focusing on language acquisition in adult learners. Sara became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2014 and achieved Fellowship status with Advance HE in 2020. Sara further developed her pedagogical expertise by earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education from the University of Dundee.
Sara worked in the Language and Linguistics Department and the Languages for All Programme at the University of Essex, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in language and linguistics, as well as a variety of other language-related subjects. At ALM College in Dundee, Sara taught different modules ranging from teaching a foreign language to research methodology, academic skills, and presentation skills, across levels SCQF5 to SCQF11. Currently, she is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, where she teaches courses at various levels and supervises master's students across different programmes, such as MSc in TESOL, Language Education, and Language and Intercultural Communication. She has also gained international experience teaching linguistics, English, and Arabic as a foreign language in educational institutions abroad. Additionally, she holds a professional role remotely as a Language and Development Specialist for an international organisation in London.
In addition to her academic roles, Sara is the Secretary of the British Association of Teachers of Arabic (BATA) and an active member of AATA Association, along with other professional associations. She has made contributions to open-access journals as both an editor and reviewer, further advancing academic research in her field. Her career achievements include receiving the Staff Achievement Award for Innovation in Digital Teaching and Learning Methods in 2021 (ALM College) and being nominated for the Rising Star Award in 2024 (Edinburgh University).
