Research summary
My research focusses primarily on the ways in which memory and space intersect. This has led me to explore what I’ve called the ’shape of memory’ in literature, the ‘materials of memory’ in architecture and the ‘geometry of commemoration’ in public monuments. I’m interested in all aspects of German memory culture and 'Vergangenheitsaufarbeitung', with particular interests in the author Günter Grass and the jurist Fritz Bauer. I have explored many aspects of 20th- and 21st-century German literature, film and culture in my research.
