Background
I graduated with a degree in History from the University of Glasgow in 1993 and began my career as Searchroom Supervisor at the Greater London Record Office (now The London Archives). After gaining experience across various repositories in the UK, I qualified as an Archivist at the University of Liverpool in 1995. Since then, I have managed a diverse range of collections, spanning archives and museum objects from higher education institutions, local authorities, museums, businesses, and private collectors.
My passion for the practical elements of archival work, combined with a commitment to engaging people with heritage, led my career to evolve into project development and management, volunteering initiatives, and teaching. This experience opened the door to the museum and gallery sector, where I focused on expanding services through grant funding, partnerships, learning programs, interpretation, exhibitions, and events.
These skills continue to shape my work today as Strategic Projects Archivist at the University of Edinburgh. I work closely with colleagues across the library, museums, and technical teams, as well as with external partners, to identify, shape and deliver projects that improve access to our collections, in creative and sustainable ways.
