Thesis title: Drivers of food choices for fruit and vegetables in rural Tanzania

Background

Nishmeet is a passionate food systems researcher using quantitative and participatory qualitative approaches to gather evidence for research and programs focusing on improving food security and dietary habits while promoting health equity across diverse populations. Before joining the Division of Global Agriculture and Food Systems, he was a research analyst at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago. Nishmeet has published articles on food security, child and maternal malnutrition, and climate change adaptation in South Asia. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Master's in Economics from India. In this PhD, he is collecting primary data and using mixed-methods approaches to comprehend the drivers of food choices among women in rural northern Tanzania (East Africa), with an emphasis on fruit and vegetable choices, their food environments, and food safety.
