Background

Nicolai graduated from Philipps-University Marburg (Germany) in 2013 with BSc degrees in Economics and Business Administration. During his undergraduate studies he spent one semester abroad at the University of Vermont (USA). In 2015 he completed an MSc in Economics at the University of Edinburgh. Between September 2017 and August 2018 he spent one year as a Research Associate at the Economics Department of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Research summary

Nicolai’s research interests lie in Applied Microeconometrics, Behavioural and Experimental Economics, with a particular interest in education and health topics. The first chapter of his PhD examines the relevance of uncertainty in the link between education and obesity, both theoretically and empirically. For the second chapter of his thesis, he conducted a lab experiment on maternal stress and food preferences jointly with Michèle Belot, Jonathan James and Martina Vecchi.
