I provide content design support as part of the User Experience Service.

This involves:

  • developing and delivering staff training in content design
  • advising colleagues on content strategy and content development
  • carrying out user research with web publishers and site users

E-learning Developer, The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies

As part of the Vet School's Digital Education Unit, I provided support for a range of online postgraduate programmes.

My main focus was on:

  • online course design
  • web content management
  • digital media production

In 2017/18, I worked on a secondment with the User Experience Service.

User research

I researched how University staff use Business Intelligence and Management Information (BI/MI) to support decision-making.

This involved:

  • Running user research workshops and interviewing BI/MI users from across the University
  • Synthesising this research and identifying patterns of behaviour
  • Developing a user journey map and a set of personas

Editorial development

I helped University HR Services improve their web content.

This involved:

  • Gathering user insight through interviews, surveys and Google Analytics
  • Using technical solutions to make site updates more efficient
  • Developing a digital strategy for University HR Services
  • Rewriting and restructuring web content

In 2017, I ran a click tracking study looking at user behaviour on the University homepage.

Learning Technologist, School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences

My work at the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences included:

  • Supporting the use of technology enhanced learning within the School

  • Helping to launch several free online courses on Coursera, including Philosophy, Science and Religion

  • Restructuring the School's public-facing website as part of a move to the new EdWeb content management system
  • Carrying out internal and external research to ensure that the School's digital services are designed with an understanding of user needs

Other work

Before joining the University of Edinburgh, I spent seven years as a teacher, and also worked as a VLE administrator at the University of Brighton's International College.
