Mr Neil Macintyre

Laboratory Manager

Background

I have over 40 years of experience in cellular pathological technique involving diagnostic, teaching and research applications here at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.  In that time I have built up a wide spectrum of expertise in a number of specialist methodologies including cryotomy, enzyme histochemistry, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry.

I am a qualified Biomedical Scientist FIBMS (Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science) having obtained my fellowship by Thesis (Immunological and cellular alterations in pig intestine after inoculation with Lawsonia intracellularis). In 2004 I was conferred the status of Chartered Scientist by the Institute for Biomedical Sciences for my continued work in the field of Biomedical Science. I am heavily involved in quality assurance with over 10 years of experience as a histological assessor for the UKNEQAS quality assurance scheme. Currently I am also one of only two veterinary histology quality assurance assessors in Europe helping to set up and run the only histology assessment scheme (VETQAS) specifically for veterinary histological cellular pathological technique and immunohistochemistry. I have a passion for training and provide lectures to staff and trainee pathologists on a variety of histological based subjects.
