Background
After graduating from Glasgow Veterinary School in 2007, Catherine spent a year working in mixed practice in Suffolk before completing a 1-year rotating small animal internship at the RVC. Following several years in small animal practice and veterinary charity work abroad, she was awarded a 7-year ECAT Wellcome Trust Fellowship to undertake a PhD followed by a residency in small animal surgery. Catherine completed her PhD at the Queens Medical Research Institute, the University of Edinburgh, in 2018 within the field of cancer immunology. Specifically, her work focused on signalling interactions between pancreatic cancer cell-derived focal adhesion kinase and the immune microenvironment of pancreatic cancer, a cancer of unmet need, where seismic improvements in therapy options have not been forthcoming in both human and veterinary medicine.
