Background

I did a PhD and a post-doc at the Univesity of Bristol before a second post-doc and the National Institutes of Health. I came to Edinburgh to establish a research group as an MRC Career Development Fellow. My research focused on synaptic plasticity and inhibitory synaptic transmission during brain development and their role in neurodevelopmental disorders such as epilepsy and intellectual disabilities. In 2015 I was appointed as lecturer on as part of the Zhejiang-Edinburgh Joint Institute. During this time I started focusing most on teaching in particular working in Quality Assurance and Enhancement. I have also carried out research into student transitions in transnational education and the impact of different styles of marking scheme. I am now a senior lecturer and the Dean of Quality for the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
