Background
I currently hold the position of Core Scientist in Functional Genomics. My research focuses on generating genomic resources for livestock breeds with important phenotypes and wildlife species of conservation concern. I am currently producing new reference-quality genomes for the Easycare self-shedding sheep, the indigenous east African Red Maasai sheep as well as the African Grey Parrot and species of endangered antelope. I have long-standing collaborations with the Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health (CTLGH), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Wildlife Training and Research Institute (WRTI, Kenya).
My background is in ancient DNA and I have a small zoo-archaeological study using ancient DNA to explore the history of sheep in the Orkney Islands, with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). I also retain a long-term interest in the conservation of red squirrels in the UK.
