Thesis title: The Influence of Food Diary Social Media Content on Body Image Perception and Disordered Eating Behaviours Among Young Adults

Background

Louisa is currently a PhD student in Clinical Psychology at the Eating Disorders and Behaviours Research Group, focusing on body image, disordered eating, and eating disorders within clinical groups and the general population.

She completed her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Macau and earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Melbourne. Engaging in research endeavours since her undergraduate years, Louisa's academic journey evolved as she developed a profound interest in adolescent mental health and development. This passion was solidified during her honours thesis, where she explored risk factors contributing to eating and body image disturbances. Her dedication motivated her to conduct comprehensive school-wide research on disordered eating, culminating in a presentation of her findings to the school leadership during her placement at a secondary school in Melbourne.

Inspired by her educational and community experiences, Louisa is committed to addressing challenges related to body image and disordered eating in youth. Her research primarily focuses on examining the intricate relationship between social media, body image, and disordered eating in young people. Through the development of evidence-based interventions, she aims to positively impact their lives by creating supportive environments where every individual can thrive and embrace their authentic selves.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Louisa enjoys traveling to new destinations and immersing herself in diverse cultures. She also engages in community service activities and participates in discussions on mental health to enhance her understanding of psychological well-being across different settings.
