Background

Lorraine Jackson has been working at the University of Edinburgh for over 20 years.  She previously worked in Educational Studies at Moray House before moving  to the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) in 2003 where she supported the Campus Manager of the BioQuarter site.

In 2010 Lorraine joined the CMVM Commercialisation Programme which aimed to increase the footprint of commercial activity within the College.   As the administrator she co-managed the MRC Confidence in Concept award (now the MRC IAA), collated and reported metrics to key stakeholders, financial management, organised events and travel, provided administrative support to the team and provided executive support to the Director.

Her current role is based in the College Research Office as Research Support Officer where she provides strategic support to College activities including fund management of the MRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) and Edinburgh Career Development Scheme (ECDS).  She co-creates and drives initiatives arising from the Research Staff Committee which supports early career researchers.   She also supports and works with the Edinburgh Scientific Academic Track (ESAT) programme, the Future Medicine project, the Innovation and Engagement Committee and the University's Concordat Implementation Group (CIG).  Lorraine is assisting with the Research Excellence Framework (REF2029) return for Clinical Medicine.

In her spare time Lorraine enjoys walking her dog Fudge, volunteering with Cycling Without Age Scotland, joining community litter picks, exercising/running, reading and enjoying life in general.

She received a CMVM staff award in the category of Outstanding Colleague in 2025.
