Biography

Background

I am Head of the Genetics Core at the Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility. This is a joint University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian facility for conducting multidisciplinary clinical research. My team of expert technicians provides support to studies investigating the role of genetics in disease and health. The laboratory provides sample processing, biobanking and high-throughput genomics with quality systems in place to ensure processes are conducted in accordance with clinical trial legislation. 

I am a member of the University Technician Steering Commitee leading on the development and implementation of the national Technician Commitment action plan. The University has over a thousand highly trained and experienced individuals with diverse skills working across all subject areas. These technical staff play an important, but often overlooked role in research, teaching and supporting our students.

I am a founding member of the UK Technology Specialists Network, which brings together my interests in technicians, technology experts and shared research facilities.
