Kyle Ewart

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow

Background

I currently hold a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow Postdoctoral Fellowship in wildlife diagnostics. My background is in evolutionary biology, population genetics, and forensic science. My previous research has primarily focused on applying genetic techniques to address wildlife conservation issues. This work has included conservation genetic studies on Australian birds, mammals, and insects; investigations into pest species invasions; and the development of wildlife forensic tools to combat illegal wildlife trade.

My current research focuses on developing and optimising wildlife diagnostic tools to address One Health challenges. I will leverage nanopore DNA sequencing advancements to design an adaptable workflow for generating diagnostic information on pathogen and host. These diagnostic data are critical for monitoring wildlife trade, tracking disease spread, and mitigating zoonotic risks to humans.
