Background

Kim has a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Queensland, Australia, and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher and staff scientist in research institutions in Australia, the U.S.A., and the U.K., in fields spanning basic molecular biology (RNA:protein interactions) to pre-clinical models of cancer (creating organoids from resected human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tissue).

She made the move from the lab bench to research support in 2017, working with principal investigators to apply for, and manage awarded, funding.

In 2019, Kim took on the project manager role for the Innovate UK funded SteatoSITE project, working with partners at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, NHS boards from around Scotland, and Eagle Genomics, to create a Data Commons for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.  This included writing the IRAS application to enable linkage of eHealth records, transcriptomic data from liver samples, and histological analyses, to create the dataset.

Following this, Kim took on the role of Research Support Manager within the College of Medicine, Veterinary, and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow, managing a team of project co-ordinators and research support administrators who provide cradle-to-grave support to researchers.

In 2024, Kim moved to the University of Edinburgh to take up the role of Senior Strategic Research Co-ordinator within the CMVM Research Office, where she supports researchers by ensuring that the College strategy and environment enable the highest levels of research excellence and integrity.  She helps support priority areas for the College, including research integrity, ethics, culture, and impact.
