Background

Kate Fraser is a Research Assistant at the Edinburgh Mood Disorders Research Clinic, part of the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. Originally trained as a musician, Kate worked in music education and community facilitation before progressing into the field of psychology. She holds an MSc in Psychological Studies (Conversion) with Distinction from the University of Glasgow. Her dissertation, which explored the impact of community music on mental health recovery, was selected as an exemplar and presented at both national and institutional conferences.

Alongside her research role, Kate works as a Peer Support Worker within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s ESTEEM service, providing person-centred support to individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis. She brings lived experience, strong qualitative research skills, and a background in creative facilitation to her work in mental health care and research.
