Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track (ECAT) Veterinary Clinical Lectureship

Background

Josie graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery undergraduate degree from Glasgow University in 2013. She began her veterinary career in small animal and equine practice in North Yorkshire. In 2015, she pursued a rotating internship at the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital at the University of Liverpool, where she discovered her love for ophthalmology.

This interest led her to complete an ophthalmology internship at Langford Vets, University of Bristol, in 2018, followed by a combined European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology residency and Master of Science degree at the University of Bristol in 2022. During this time, she also completed a postgraduate certificate in small animal ophthalmology in 2020.

In 2024, Josie became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology and attained Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and European Board of Veterinary Specialist status in ophthalmology. Continuing her work at the University of Edinburgh, she was accepted onto the Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track (ECAT) Lectureship program in 2024 to undertake a Wellcome Trust-funded PhD within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

Outside of work, she loves photography, watercolour painting, graphic design, diving and snorkelling, bird watching and exploring the beautiful Scottish countryside with her labrador, Kiwi
