Background
Jason Nuwayhid is a PhD Candidate in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at the University of Edinburgh, where he also coordinates the Postgraduate Biblical Hebrew Reading Group. His work sits at the intersection of biblical studies and Assyriology, with research interests in Ancient Near Eastern literature, Sumerian and Akkadian texts, and the Cylinders of Gudea. In 2026, he is a Visiting PhD Student in Assyriology at Wolfson College, University of Oxford.
He teaches as an Adjunct Lecturer in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Edinburgh Theological Seminary and Biblical Theological Seminary in Amman, Jordan, with accreditation from the University of Glasgow. He holds an M.A. in Biblical Studies and an M.Div from Reformed Theological Seminary, and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. He works across a range of ancient and modern languages, including Hebrew, Aramaic, Akkadian, Sumerian, Greek, and Latin, and is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Old Testament Studies: Epistemologies and Methods Network, and the Evangelical Theological Society.
