Background

Thesis title: Targeting muscarinic receptors in treating and slowing neurodegeneration

I am a first year PhD student in the MRC DTP in Precision Medicine (Glasgow lead). I obtained a Master in Science in Pharmacology with Study in Industry from the University of Bristol in 2018. During my degree, I spent one year working in the Applied Neurophysiology Group at the University of Exeter, where I developed an interest in using electrophysiology to understand how neuronal networks are affected by neurodegenerative diseases.

My PhD project utilises in vivo electrophysiology to investigate the effects of novel drug candidates targeting muscarinic receptors. I am spending the first year of my PhD learning in vivo electrophysiological techniques at the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. I will then apply the techniques to models of neurodegenerative disease at the University of Glasgow. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling around the country and ringing church tower bells.
