Background
Jerusha Lieow is born and raised in the culturally blended communities of West Malaysia. Her affinity for mutidisciplinary perspectives is reflected in her pursuit of both Physics and History studies as an undergraduate. She recruited for multi-national companies in Singapore and trained for pastoral ministry in Canada before her current PhD candidacy at the Centre of Study for World Christianity, University of Edinburgh. Her research engages both theologians and Biblical Studies scholars on the topic of food offered to idols and its contrast to the Eucharist as addressed by Paul in 1 Corinthians 8-10. She offers an alternative approximation to the original context through the lens of present-day Chinese practices from her cultural heritage. She argues that doing so may shed more light to the perennial debate amongst Christians regarding the pastoral question, "Is idol-food permissible for Christians according to Paul, and why?"
