Background

Jazaa Khaled is a PhD Researcher in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on Saudi politics and political transformation, with particular attention to Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman’s  Vision 2030 and the changing relationship between state power, governance and socio-political reform.

Her doctoral research examines how Vision 2030 constructs and legitimises a model of top-down socio-political transformation, drawing on political theory to analyse the evolving Saudi political system and processes of reform, governance and state-building.

Her broader academic interests include Middle East politics, political transformation, state-building, governance and the relationship between political power and social change in the region. Alongside her doctoral research, Jazaa teaches and tutors undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Edinburgh.
