Jamie Gorzynski
Thesis title: Population genomic identification of bacterial traits linked to the outcome of Legionnaires’ disease

PhD supervisor:
Background
Jamie is a PhD student working at the Roslin Institute as part of the MVM Precision Medicine Programme. He joined the Lab for Bacterial Evolution and Pathogenesis (LBEP)Â in September 2018, following his interest in research and a broad interest in microbial pathogen evolution. He did his undergraduate degree in Microbiology at the University of Aberdeen, followed by a masters degree at the University of Edinburgh, where he studied Evolutionary Genetics (Kings Buildings).
His project uses bioinformatic methods for genomics and phylogenetics to investigate the evolution of pathogenic Legionella species and the strain-dependent variation seen in the outcome of infection. In his spare time, Jamie enjoys hiking, travelling and being outdoors, as well as playing chess.
