Background

I work in the field of audiology, including clinical practice, research, and academic lecturing. Since 2015, I have been the Audiology Lead for Education at Sensory Support Services in Bolton, Greater Manchester. In this position, I ensure that hearing devices and rehabilitation programs are integrated optimally for children and young people aged 0–18.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Audiology at the University of Manchester, obtaining a First-Class BSc (Hons) with distinction in clinical practice. Subsequently, I was awarded an ESRC studentship, which enabled me to undertake doctoral studies in Audiology at the University of Manchester. My PhD research focused on the use of hearing technologies to enhance outcomes for preschool deaf children.

I led the research team at The Ear Foundation from 2011 to 2015, leading and coordinating numerous research projects and producing published reports, peer-reviewed papers, and conference presentations. I supervised and helped to coordinate more than 40 Masters dissertations between 2014 and 2023 at the University of Hertfordshire/Mary Hare MSc in Educational Audiology.

My professional focus is on clinical practice and research to improve the quality of life for deaf people, children and their families. I am particularly interested in improving the adoption of the latest hearing technologies and bridging the gap between service providers and service users. To achieve this goal, I have collaborated closely with leading hearing technology manufacturers, hearing services, national and international charities, and professional organisations. In 2023 I led the British Association of Teachers of deaf children and young people (BATOD) audiology update programme (https://www.batod.org.uk/resources-category/audiology-refreshers).

At the University of Edinburgh, my primary focus is to provide comprehensive audiology training to educators of deaf children, equipping them with the practical skills and knowledge to better serve the children and families they work with.
