Background
I am Hathaichanok Wansong (หทัยชนก หวานสง; approximately /hà.tʰaj.tɕʰá.nók wǎːn.sǒŋ/), and I also go by Nat. I am a PhD student in Linguistics and English Language at the University of Edinburgh. My research interests lie in psycholinguistics and bilingualism, with a particular focus on pronoun interpretation and reference resolution.
My PhD investigates pronoun interpretation in Thai and English. I am especially interested in how Thai speakers and Thai English bilinguals interpret pronouns, and how their interpretations are shaped by grammatical, discourse and language specific factors. My project uses experimental methods to examine how far current psycholinguistic models of pronoun interpretation can account for Thai and bilingual data.
By comparing Thai and English, my research aims to contribute to a broader understanding of which aspects of pronoun interpretation are cross linguistically stable, and which are shaped by the grammatical and discourse properties of individual languages.
Prior to my PhD, I worked as a lecturer in English at Mae Fah Luang University in Thailand. My teaching and research interests include syntax, psycholinguistics, phonetics and second language acquisition.
I am also interested in language assessment. I completed the Advanced Specialist Certificate in Language Assessment at SEAMEO Regional Language Centre (RELC) in Singapore in 2023, and attended English Language Assessment Training for Vocational Teachers and University Lecturers, organised by the Regional English Language Office and Chulalongkorn University Language Institute (CULI), in Thailand in 2023.
