Background
Fiona holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Policy from Central European University. Her dissertation examined international strategies for environmental management in post-conflict regions of Southeastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. She continues to direct her research and teaching efforts towards vulnerable populations and regions impacted by conflict. Fiona has taught courses in Environmental Management and Sustainable Food Systems and Security at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) and the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
Her research incorporates social network analysis and behavior change models to explore barriers to sustainable agricultural innovations, Integrated Pest Management, and the intersections between sustainable agriculture and healthy diets. Fiona has developed a diverse array of educational opportunities, ranging from CPD programs for high school teachers, undergraduate courses centered on the Sustainable Development Goals, to postgraduate programs focusing on food security and planetary health. Furthermore, Fiona has collaborated with partners across East Africa to develop the Dryland Futures Academy Education Framework.
