Farhad Alavi has been teaching tutorials at the University of Edinburgh in the following courses:

Introduction to History of Philosophy I: Plato, Aristotle, Avicenna. 

Introduction to History of Philosophy II: Descartes, Berkeley, Cavendish, and non-western traditions. 

Philosophy of Science.

Mind, matter and language. 

Current research interests

Knowledge and demonstrability in Hume: His multi-layered account of modality in arithmetic and geometry.

Past research interests

Kant's utilization of mathematics in the Transcendental Philosophy, especially how mathematics is at play in his theory of schematism.

Project activity

Mathematics and demonstrative reasoning in Hume's philosophy.
