Thesis title: Neurodivergent students' access to education: The role of social inequalities, child and family factors

Biography

Background

I am a first year PhD student funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS). My project is in collaboration with two partner organisations, Mindroom and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. My research looks at the associations between neurodiversity, family poverty, and parental mental health on young people's access to education, using quantitative analysis to examine how these associations vary over time. 

My research is also informed by a neurodivergent youth advisory group, to ensure that it is grounded in the lived experience of those it concerns. 

Prior to starting my PhD, I worked in a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school as a Support Assistant, and worked as an Assistant Psychologist for a service specialising in neurodevelopmental assessments.
