Dr Waneisha Jones (MBBS, MSc)

Thesis title: Preventing Recurrent Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular Events After Ischaemic Stroke: Cardiovascular Genetic and Genomic Approaches

Background

I completed my MBBS in 2014 at The University of the West Indies (UWI) then spent just under 2-years in clinical practice in tertiary and primary care institutions. I then completed my Master in Public Health (MPH) in 2017 at the UWI. I stayed at the UWI  as a part-time lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Sciences for 3-years and then continued as Lecturer in Public Health full-time for another 3-years.

During my MPH, I was introduced to epigenetics which was the seed that grew into my now flourishing interest in clinical bioinformatics. As a result I completed my MSc Bioinformatics at the University of Glasgow in 2024.

I currently am pursuing my Phd in Precision Medicine with University of Glasgow being my lead institution.

Qualifications

MSc Bioinformatics, University of Glasgow (2024)

Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning, The University of the West Indies (2022)

Master in Public Health, The University of the West Indies (2017)

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, The University of the West Indies (2014)

Research summary

I'm interested broadly in the exploration of multifactorial disorders/traits using a multi-omics approach to better delineate disease endotypes and identify more tailored treatment strategies. I also use my public health experience to contribute to research on key issues affecting small island developing states, including food insecurity and the climate crisis.

Current research interests

My work focuses on exploring the factors associated with recurrent cardiovsacular events post ischaemic stroke, to identify better and more tailored treatment approaches in this patient population.

Past research interests

Food and Nutrition, Public Health
