Background

Dr. Tushar Choudhary gained his PhD from School of Life Sciences, Heriot Watt University and School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow in 2014. His PhD was in Retinal and Choroidal Oximetry using Snapshot Multispectral Imaging where he explored and developed technologies and applications for non-invasive imaging of blood oxygen levels. Dr. Choudhary then joined the EPSRC funded Proteus project as postdoctoral researcher where he applied his skills in developing imaging and sensing technologies for diagnostics applications in lung diseases. He validated fibre based endoscopic imaging systems in pre-clinical models and developed new optical fibre based physiological sensors for clinical applications. In Proteus he also worked on developing animal and human ex vivo lung perfusion models for monitoring physiology and testing new clinical technologies; fluorescence lifetime imaging for bacterial detection and prototyping medical endoscopy fibred device and optical fibre sensing probes.

Dr. Choudhary is currently a Research Fellow at The Roslin Institute in Gene Therapy Group which is part  of  the  UK  CF  Gene  Therapy  Consortium  (UKCFGTC  http://www.cfgenetherapy.org.uk). His main role is to conduct  studies  as  part  of  a  programme  of  work  aimed  at  exploiting  a  lentiviral  vector  platform,  uniquely  engineered  for  gene  transfer  to  the  lung,  for  a  portfolio  of  diseases  where  there  is  scope  for  expression  of  a  therapeutic  transgene  through  delivery  of  vectors  to  the  lung and optimising  appropriate  protocols  for  preclinical  evaluation  of  pulmonary  gene  delivery by developing new protocols and establish large animal models.
