Background
I am a Teaching Fellow in Clinical Psychology, supporting postgraduate students primarily from the MSc in Mental Health in Children and Young People: Psychological Approaches.
I am originally from Brazil, where I completed my BsC, MsC, and PhD. During my PhD, I spent 9 months at Maynooth University, Ireland, on a research visit. My MsC and PhD focused on experimental ways to reduce racial bias in children. We devised a simple procedure that effectively reduced those biases, and its reduction was maintained six weeks after the procedure. This was a rare and important result. After my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher on a project that focused on the intersection of gender and race, examining Black women’s lives and experiences with racial microaggressions and related phenomena. During this period, I spent 11 months working at the University of South Australia on a research visit as an extension of my project.
Since I began my MsC in 2013, I have worked on several research projects involving topics, such as race and ethnic relations, sexual and gender minorities, prejudice, feminism, gender relations, and autism. I am also a chartered psychologist in Brazil with experience working mostly with Black, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent individuals.
Before joining the University of Edinburgh, I also worked in several postgraduate courses in Brazil, teaching modules such as “Therapeutic Skills: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and race relations II”, “Therapeutic Skills: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and LGBT individuals”, “Research supervision”, “Cultural adaptations of behavioural activation for minorities”, and “Learning and Autism”.
