Dr Smaragda Tsairidou

Lecturer in Data-Driven Innovation and Genetics

Background

I am a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, with international expertise in animal health and genetics. I received my MSc in Quantitative Genetics and Genome Analysis, and my PhD in quantitative genetics and computational genomics at the University of Edinburgh, investigating genetic resistance to bovine Tuberculosis.

My postdoctoral research combines quantitative genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, selective breeding, and genetic-epidemiology to develop data-driven solutions for One Health problems, and design strategies for sustainable management of genetic diversity and disease control in livestock and aquaculture production systems.

I have received the Edinburgh Teaching Award, and I am Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
