Dr Smaragda Tsairidou

Lecturer in Data-Driven Innovation and Genetics

Background

Hi, I am Dr Smaragda Tsairidou, Lecturer in Data-Driven Innovation and Genetics, Deputy Lead for the Animal biosciences, Agriculture & Aquaculture Cluster, and Programme Coordinator for the Data-Driven Breeding and Genetics MSc, at the R(D)SVS, University of Edinburgh.

I am a  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, with international expertise in animal health and genetics. I received my MSc in Quantitative Genetics and Genome Analysis, and my PhD in genetics and genomics at the University of Edinburgh, studying resistance to bovine Tuberculosis. I have received the Edinburgh Teaching Award, and I am Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

My research combines quantitative genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, selective breeding, and genetic-epidemiology to develop data-driven solutions for One Health problems, and design strategies for sustainable management of genetic diversity and disease control in livestock and aquaculture production systems.
